Fusing a mix of funk, jazz, electronic, and the future, Spare Parts has an exciting new sound never heard before. The group was formed late in the year 2000 by Kevin Kozol (keyboards), Colin Scott (bass) and Mike Bruno (percussion) in Carbondale, IL. Almost immediately, the group began performing at popular venues across the Midwest. Influences ranging from Primus and Weather Report to Led Zeppelin fuel the creative engines of Spare Parts as they continue to perform a wide variety of music to a steadily growing fan base. Upon their move Chicago, the group added Shane Jonas on trumpet and vocals to complete the lineup.
The band will soon release their second CD following up on their debut album Exit 54 which has received airplay all around the Midwest (WXRT Chicago, KDHX St. Louis, WDBX Carbondale) and even internationally. The U.K. based company Audigist included the track “Two Aliens” on their “Best of 2004” compilation CD. Spare Parts consistently packs venues around the Midwest and members have opened or shared the stage with Victor Wooten, The Jazz Mandolin Project, Particle, Jeff Coffin, and Fareed Haque. The bands versatility has opened many doors including teaching, scoring music for several independent films and they have been featured on commercials and even the PBS program Studio A Cafe. Spare Parts is based in Chicago and is focused on writing and performing new original material at premier venues around the country.
